Arb Aid Training (FPOS-First Person On Scene - Basic / Intermediate Level)

The  FPOS  Basic  course  has  been   developed  in  partnership  between  the  Institute  of Health  Care Development  IHCD - (part  of  Edexcel, the UK's largest qualification awarding body) and the Faculty  of Pre-Hospital Care, of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

The FPOS course is designed to extend a first aiders basic skills in the arbooriculture/forestry environment  to a level where they can rapidly assess, stabilise  and  manage a  casualty until  handover  to  a medical service professional (up to 20 minutes  for basic level, 40 minutes for  intermediate level). This  period of time is crucial  to  the success rate for the patient.

Our  unique   course, represents  several  decades  of  practical  training, design  and delivery  in  remote  areas. The  keynotes   of  our  training approach are realism and practical performance, backed up with real life experience with an emphasis on understanding the 'why' as well as the 'how'.

At the end of the course there will be  an assessment  consisting of both theoretical and practical elements (real life scenarios),which will ensure that the student  has met the requirements  of  the course, and reached a high level of knowledge and skill. We aim to build  competence and confidence, equiping our students with a vital lifelong skill-set, which will be of use in the hazardous working enviroment of an arboriculture and forestry, or during unexpected sudden family illness.

On successful completion  of  the  3   days,  each   student   will  be  awarded  the internationally recognised First Person On Scene BTEC qualification. The Certification is valid for 3 years, during which time a refresher course must be taken or the qualification will lapse and the full course will have to be re-taken. Yearly refresher course is recomended.
