Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What's so special about a first aid / trauma kit specifically designed for arborists?

Most commonly available first aid kits do not have the specialist products required to deal with the kind of serious life-threatening injuries that can be caused in a highly dangerous work environment (like holding a chainsaw whilst suspended 60 feet above the ground). The Arb Aid trauma kit has been designed by arborists for arborists and goes far beyond any current legislation for first aid or trauma kits in heavy industries. Quite simply, an Arb Aid trauma kit could be the difference between keeping an arm or losing it, or at worst, between life and death.

Is the trauma kit case waterproof?

Yes, the trauma kit case if fully waterproof and has successfully passed rigorous testing to depths of 100ft.

Is the trauma kit suitable for air travel? What is the black knob on the front for?

The black knob on the front of the case is a release valve essential for air travel. The air pressure during flight creates a suction-like effect inside the case which holds the case closed. The release valve equalises the pressure and allows the case to be opened - first aid kits without this release valve can be stuck shut following air travel. We recommend that the case be checked for opening immediately after landing or before intended use. It can take a few hours after opening the valve for the pressure to equalise.

Are Tourniquets safe to use? What are the dangers?

Tourniquet use is for major arterial bleeds and loss of limb only. In these circumstances a good CAT tourniquet appplied with adequate knowledge and training can mean the difference between life and death. Dangers only arise if used incorrectly so ensure that proper training is given.

Is it true that Arb Aid trauma kits are indestructible?

Yes, Arb Aid trauma kits are indestructible and come with a lifetime warranty. We challenge you to break one of these cases.

Can the kit be fastened to surfaces or vehicles?

Yes, there is an optional bracket that allows the kit to be fastened securely to any flat metal or glass surface.

What is the lifespan of the products in an Arb Aid Trauma Kit?

All consumable products have a minimum 3 year lifespan and the case has a lifetime guarantee.

Does this kit cover Health and Safety Executive (HSE) minimum guidelines?

The Arb Aid trauma kit goes above and beyond any legislation available to date for first aid in any dangerous industry.

How many employees will this kit cover if they were to have an accident?

The guidelines set by HSE are for a certain amount of employees to one kit or one first aid person on site to one kit. If there was ever an incident where 3 or more people were severely injured while working with chainsaws you might run out of first aid before you ran out of life-saving products. One trauma kit to one vehicle is more than enough if the worst were to happen.

Do you need training on how to use an Arb Aid Trauma kit?

For anyone working in a dangerous environment like arboriculture we feel they should already have a minimum 1 day’s first aid at work course under their belt before buying an Arb Aid Trauma Kit. The kit will come with a comprehensive Instruction book / Aide Memoir to allow the user to understand each product and how best to use them. However, we do highly recommend that anyone who buys a kit take part in a 2 day First Aid / Trauma Management course designed specifically for Arborists. Contact Arb Aid for further detail on specialist arboriculture first aid and trauma management training.
